The LAHM Big Band, led tonight by Alphonso Horne, explores the music and legacy of Louis Armstrong across the full arc of his career, from early big band and small group works to later large ensemble music. The band draws from rare archival material—much of it not recorded or heard since the early 1930s—alongside well-known repertoire, offering a deeper and more expansive view of Armstrong’s artistry. Grounded in historical research and brought to life by today’s leading jazz musicians, the LAHM Big Band bridges Armstrong’s language to a new generation, highlighting the ways his sound, spirit, and approach continue to shape and inspire modern jazz artists.
