ABOUT THE CONCERT
Jazz guitar icon Bill Frisell takes over Jazz at Lincoln Center’s the Appel Room for a star-studded weekend, March 27–28, as part of his nationwide 75th birthday celebration and in honor of the forthcoming album release In My Dreams, out February 27.
Friday’s (3/27, 7:00pm & 9:00pm) In My Dreams: A Sonic Reunion brings together a group of longtime collaborators the guitar legend has dreamed of reuniting for over a decade. Inspired by the new album—a family-reunion-like sextet gathering some of Frisell’s closest musical partners—the program reflects decades of shared history and musical exploration. Joined by Jenny Scheinman (violin), Eyvind Kang (viola), Hank Roberts (cello), Tony Scherr (acoustic bass), and Rudy Royston (drums), Frisell reflects, “Our history goes back decades. I’ve spent so much time with these folks. Traveled many miles. But that doesn’t mean we’re done. We’re just getting started.”
On Saturday (3/28, 4:30pm & 7:00pm), Frisell shifts to a more intimate setting, pairing with three extraordinary artists for an evening highlighting his boundless collaborative spirit. Petra Haden adds her ethereal voice and creative energy, drummer Tim Angulo brings rhythms informed by the African Diaspora and classical traditions, and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire contributes his deeply expressive sound, creating a program that celebrates both Frisell’s legacy and his continuing artistic evolution.
