Description
Join Swing University's Caleb Smith as he moderates discussions and musical demonstrations with a variety of rising jazz artists at Lehman College in the Bronx. Om April 2 Drummer and composer Lesley Mok gives a workshop on rhythm as speech and how we can use the nuances of the way we speak to conceptualize phrasing, momentum, and rhythm in music. On April 9, genderqueer cultural worker, composer, painter, improviser, multi-instrumentalist, and transdisciplinary performance artist Mobey Lola Irizarry will explore alternate forms for music stemming from Afro-Indigenous, Caribbean, diasporic, and genderqueer perspectives.
