The Maestro: Celebrating Cedar Walton at 90

Description

No artist has influenced the sound of New York City quite like the late and legendary Cedar Walton. While his artistry has global resonance, his legacy as a musician and a band leader courses through the personal expression of countless New York icons, including those burning up the bandstand this evening: Ralph Moore, Jeremy Manasia, David Williams, Caelan Cardello, Jason Clotter, and Willie Jones III. Known for his work in Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, and later his own era-defining project Eastern Rebellion, the pianist and composer became a singular force in lyricism, fiery vocabulary, and deep song interpretation.
