Celebrating Eddie Palmieri
Description
Sonido Solar is one of the most exciting new bands to hit the music scene. Their high-energy instrumental music incorporates the danceable rhythms of salsa and Afro-Caribbean music, tasteful arrangements, and world-class improvisation.
For their Dizzy’s Club engagement, Sonido Solar will pay tribute to their mentor, 10-time Grammy winner, NEA Jazz Master, and Latin music legend Eddie Palmieri! Special guests include Palmieri’s longtime collaborators and world-renowned musicians Brian Lynch, Conrad Herwig, Little Johnny Rivero, and Nelson Gonzalez.
Sonido Solar’s debut album, “Eddie Palmieri Presents Sonido Solar," topped radio charts and received international critical acclaim. Downbeat Magazine rated it at a stellar 4.5 out of 5 stars: "In their hands, the tradition feels both safe and newly invigorated... the rising of the next sun."
The band was co-founded by Louis Fouché, Jonathan Powell, Luques Curtis, and Zaccai Curtis, all of whom have performed with and been mentored by Eddie Palmieri. The name “Sonido Solar” translates to “Solar Sound,” a direct tribute to Palmieri who is known as “The Sun of Latin Music.”
We dare you to sit still during this stellar set of music!
