Description

ABOUT THE CONCERT

Join host Dee Dee Bridgewater and special guests as we celebrate Sarah Vaughan, a venerated vocalist, pianist, and bandleader whose influence on the music persists.

With her impressive technical and stylistic range, Vaughan transformed how vocalists approach lyrics and connect to their material. For her centennial, expect new interpretations of classic recordings across different eras of her career, from her tenure with Earl Hines and the early architects of bebop in the 1940s through her Emmy Award for Individual Achievement in the 1980s.

Special guests include Jazzmeia Horn, JAZZ HOUSE Legacy Band and many past winners of the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. This production is presented with community partners NJPAC and JAZZ HOUSE KiDS. Don’t miss this historic concert.

Leadership support for the Sarah Vaughan Centennial Celebration is provided by Mary G. Herms and Ryan J. Marshall.

This program is presented as part of the Ertegun Jazz Concert Series.
